As an aid in the treatment of hypocalcemic conditions in cattle, horses, sheep, dogs and cats, e.g. milk fever in dairy cows.
Consult your veterinarian for re-evaluation of diagnosis and therapeutic plan if there is no improvement in 24 hours. Use cautiously in patients receiving digitalis glycosides, or with cardiac or renal disease. This product contains no preservative. Discard any unused portion.
Patients may complain of tingling sensations, a sense of oppression or heat waves and a calcium or chalky taste following the intravenous administration of calcium gluconate.
Rapid intravenous injection of calcium salts may cause vasodilation, decreased blood pressure, bardycardia, cardiac arrhythmias, syncope and cardiac arrest. Use in digitalized patients may precipitate arrhythmias.
Local necrosis and abscess formation may occur with intramuscular injection.
Administer by intravenous, subcutaneous or intraperitoneal injection using proper aseptic techniques. Use intravenously in horses. Warm solution to body temperature prior to use, and inject slowly. Intravenous administration is recommended for treatment of acute conditions.
