Diazinon 60% EC is an organophosphorus compound that kills a wide range of Arachnids and insects. It is employed in the control / treatment of external parasitic infestations in domestic animals. It is effective against ticks, mange mites, ked, lice and fleas, biting flies, blowfly maggot, screwworms and external parasites in horses, cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and dogs. It also protects animals from biting fly strikes for about six weeks.
Diazinon 60% EC is applied either topically as spray or dipping. The frequency of application depends on the density of parasitic infestation. In heavy infestation the application is made 2 times at 7-day interval. In case of low parasitic infestation a single application is sufficient. During application, animals should be immersed or sprayed until the fur becomes completely saturated with dilation. Then allow the animals to drain in an open air preferably under shade for few minutes.
Spray: Horses, cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and dogs.
Dilute Diazinon 60% EC at the rate of 0.1% (1 mL Diazinon 60% EC in 1 L water) and apply.
Dogs:
Dilute Diazinon 60% EC at the rate of 0.06% (0.6 mL Diazinon 60% EC in 1 L water) and apply.
Dip:
Initially, fill the dip bath with Diazinon 60% EC solution prepared at the rate of 1 L per 2400 L water for sheep / goat / pigs and 1 L per 1000 L for horses and cattle.
Diazinon 60% EC, an organophosphorus compound is toxic to animals and human by cholinesterase blocking activity. When swallowed or inhaled or overdosed it causes toxic effect characterized by salivation, tremor, pinpoint eyes, blared vision, diarrhea and possible death due to respiratory failure.
Cases of toxicity can be combated by immediate provision of IV atropine sulphate at initial dose rate of 1 mg/kg body weight and maintenance dose of 0.5 mg/kg body weight. Use 2 PAM IV at dose rate of 50 mg/kg body weight. In human cases, call the physician immediately and avail the leaflet to him.
Diazinon 60% EC is very toxic to bird, aquatic animals and other beneficiary insects.
Never drink or eat or smoke while handling the product before washing hands and face thoroughly with soap and water. Never swallow or inhale the chemical.
Protective clothing: gloves, face masks, boots and apron while handling. Wash any contacts of concentrate from skin and eyes immediately.
Don’t apply while raining or during the hot time of the day or when the animals are thirsty, tired or have wounds. Young animals should not suckle before washing the udder and do not allow animals lick the applied part until it is completely dry. Don’t treat animals with other organophosphorus based products one week before or after using Diazinon 60% EC. As it is toxic to bird, fishes, cat and other beneficiary insects, care should be taken to protect environmental contamination such as waterways, pasture and other feed sources. Any unwanted contaminant should be decomposed with 5% NaOH and water. Never use the empty container for any other purpose and destroy by incinerator at high temperature. Keep the products in its original container.
1. Don’t use on diary or lactating animals/cows.
2. Strictly measure Diazinon 60% EC for drug bath, the bathing time is about 1 minute.
3. 1 mL Diazinon 60% EC in 1 L water is sprayed on 1 large cow or 2 small cows (non-diary, non lactating cow), don’t spray on the head.
4. Spray outdoors, good ventilation. In case of salivation or other symptoms of poisoning, immediately treat with atropine and pralidoxime. In case of injury, disabilities don’t use it.
5. All diazinon water solution should presently prepared and presently used. The dipping bath must be cleaned up completely. Because the drug residue of last year or last time has rank poison.
