The combination of procaine penicillin G and neomycin sulphate acts additive and in some cases synergistic. Procaine penicillin G is a small-spectrum penicillin with a bactericidal action against mainly Gram-positive bacteria like Clostridium, Corynebacterium, Erysipelothrix, Listeria, penicillinase-negative Staphylococcus and Streptococcus spp. Neomycin is a broad-spectrum bactericidal aminoglycosidic antibiotic with particular activity against certain members of the Enterobacteriaceae e.g. Escherichia coli.
For the treatment of systemic infections in cattle, calves, sheep and goats caused by or associated with organisms sensitive to penicillin and/or neomycin including:
Arcanobacterium pyogenes
Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae
Listeria spp
Mannheimia haemolytica
Staphylococcus spp (non-penicillinase producing)
Streptococcus spp
Enterobacteriaceae
Escherichia coli
and for the control of secondary bacterial infection with sensitive organisms in diseases primarily associated with viral infection.
For intramuscular administration:
Cattle: 1 ml per 20kg body weight for 3 days.
Calves, goats and sheep: 1 ml per 10kg body weight for 3 days.
Shake well before use and do not administer more than 6 ml in cattle and more than 3 ml in calves, goats and sheep per injection site. Successive injections should be administered at different sites.
Hypersensitivity to penicillin, procaine and/or aminoglycosides.
Administration to animals with a serious impaired renal function.
Concurrent administration with tetracycline, chloramphenicol, macrolides and lincosamides.
Store below 25ºC, in a cool and dry place, and protect from light.
